Welcome to JohnDSaunders.com (the "Website"), the digital home of John D. Saunders, founder of 5Four and Black Illustrations. I am committed to protecting the privacy of visitors and customers. This Privacy Policy explains how information about you is collected, used, protected and shared.

Information I collect

  • Information you provide: what you enter when you contact me, subscribe to a newsletter, purchase a digital product or engage my services, typically your name, email address, company name and payment details (processed by the payment provider, never stored by me).
  • Automated information: when you visit the Website, certain information about your device is collected automatically, browser type, IP address, time zone, referring site or search terms, the pages you view and how you interact with them.

Analytics: Google Analytics

The Website uses Google Analytics 4, a service provided by Google LLC, to measure traffic and usage. Google Analytics uses cookies and similar identifiers to collect information such as pages visited, time on page, approximate location (city level) and device type. IP addresses are anonymised. Analytics: Microsoft Clarity

I partner with Microsoft Clarity to capture how you use and interact with the Website through behavioral metrics, heatmaps and session replay, in order to improve the site and products. Website usage data is captured using first- and third-party cookies and other tracking technologies to determine the popularity of content and online activity. Cookies

Cookies are small text files stored on your device. The Website uses essential cookies (site function), analytics cookies (Google Analytics, Microsoft Clarity) and, where embedded, third-party cookies from services such as YouTube or Substack. You can control cookies through your browser settings; disabling them may affect parts of the Website.

This does not include trusted partners who help operate the Website and business, hosting, email delivery, payment processing and analytics (Google, Microsoft), so long as they agree to keep this information confidential and use it only to provide their service.

Data retention

I keep your personal information only as long as needed for the purposes above or until you ask me to delete it. Analytics data is retained per the default retention periods of Google Analytics and Microsoft Clarity. Retention periods are reviewed regularly.

Your rights

Depending on where you live (including the EU/UK under GDPR and California under CCPA), you may have the right to access the personal information I hold about you, port it to another service, correct or update it, object to its processing, or ask that it be erased. Email me and I will respond within 30 days.

Children

The Website is not directed at children under 13 and I do not knowingly collect personal information from them.

Changes to this Privacy Policy

I may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Check this page periodically; continued use of the Website after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the modified policy.
